British Values
At Endeavour Academy Trust is fortunate in having a diverse population which adds richness to our lives. Whilst we celebrate our differences and we also recognise that one thing which is common to all of us is that we live in Britain. As such we recognise that importance of promoting fundamental British Values as values that are important to use all. In 2011, the Government defined British Values as:
- Democracy
- The rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect
- Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs.
We promote these values through our own school values, curriculum and enrichment activities.
At Endeavour Academy Trust we will actively challenge pupils, staff or parents expressing opinions contrary to fundamental British Values, including ‘extremist’ views.

We have an elected School Council, which we use as an opportunity to promote and teach about democracy and the electoral process. The School Council meets regularly to discuss issues raised in class. Democracy is also promoted through PSHE lessons and assemblies where children are taught to respect their rights and the rights of others. We welcome a range of External visitors throughout the year, from the Lord Mayor, to MPs, to political candidates.

The importance of Laws, whether they are classroom rules, school rules, or laws of the country, are consistently reinforced through all we do. We have high expectations of pupil behaviour –in terms of both conduct and behaviour for learning. Children are taught the value and reasons behind laws/rules, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves and the consequences when laws/rules are broken Our PSHE curriculum and assemblies teach children about trust, respect and honesty. We encourage children to develop a strong sense of morality; knowing right from wrong and doing the right thing even when it’s difficult. Pupils follow a positive behaviour policy and clearly understand the rewards and sanctions that are used We have strong links with the local police officer/PCSOs who visit the school to talk to the children and explain about their role in society. Children are taught consideration for others through our Religious Education curriculum

Children are actively encouraged to make choices within a safe and supportive environment. They are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and advise how to exercise these safely for example through our E-Safety and PSHE lessons They are also taught to respect the rights of others to these things. They are given the freedom to make many choices during their day whether it is through choice of challenge, of how they record, lunch options, of participation in extra-curricular clubs and opportunities. Our PSHE units ‘Right to be Safe’ teaches children how to keep themselves safe, including on-line.

Our high expectations of pupil conduct are reflected in our Behaviour Policy and Equality Objectives. All members of the school community treat each other with respect. Children are taught to respect each other, to be co-operative and collaborative, be supportive and to look for similarities while being understanding of differences. They are taught to listen to and value each other’s’ opinions Specific assemblies are delivered focusing on helping other pupils to understand specific special needs e.g. Anti-Bullying assembly. Mutual respect is also promoted through additional PSHE lessons and assemblies.

Assemblies and class work promote the diversity of society and the right for each person to be respected and valued equally regardless of ability, gender, faith, heritage or race · Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs is promoted through our curriculum for Religious Education where children learn about different religions, their beliefs, places of worship and festivals. Assemblies mark and celebrate significant religious festivals and current affairs. Class teaching makes children aware of current affairs We welcome parents from different cultures and faiths to share their knowledge and experience with us in class, assemblies and special events. Our curriculum offers children the chance to reflect on our core values and British values. We also celebrate a wide range of special days and events (sporting, cultural or historical.) |
