Keeping Children Safe

We work closely together with our parents and carers, community figures and a range of external professionals in order to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our pupils.

We follow closely the statutory guidance from the Department for Education. Click the link for the latest government guidance on Keeping Children Safe in Education.  https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/keeping-children-safe-in-education--2  If you have any concerns about the safety or wellbeing of any child, please contact school's designated Leads for Safeguarding; Jenna Cook/Komilla Datta or Isobel Penaliggon (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead).

We have an explicit duty to safeguard and protect children from abuse as defined in the Children Act (2004); the Education Act (2002 and 2011); DfE guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018) and the 2022 statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education.

We keep everyone safe through our Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures; our PSHE (Personal, Social & Health Education) curriculum; our online safety curriculum and through pastoral support.

Please see below for our Mental Health and Early Help Offer in school. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the DSL team.

At Little Mead Primary Academy we have two Designated Safeguarding Leads and one deputy DSL:

I am a child and I do not feel safe

If you are scared or don’t feel safe at home or at school, you can do one of these things:

  • Speak to any adult in your class at any time. We are here to help you.
  • Speak to Ms Cooke, Ms Datta, Miss Penaliggon, Mrs Scott or Miss Wootten.
  • Phone Childline on 0800 11 11 anytime day or night. They are happy to speak to you about any worries. The call is free. Your teachers will be happy for you to use a phone in school – just ask.
