At Little Mead we follow a topic based curriculum. Each term has a subject focus and includes a topic related event. All subjects are taught through the year through these topics where possible.
Term 1: Our Island Nation (History)
Term 2: Material Madness! (Science & DT)
Term 3: Global Connections (Geography)
Term 4: May the Force Be With You! (Science & DT)
Term 5: Circle of Life (Arts)
Term 6: Walk on the Wild Side (Science & DT)
Other whole school events also include Maths Week, Book Week, Internet Safety Day and Sports Day to name but a few! Throughout the year we also celebrate Harvest, Christmas and spring with performances and festivals. Our Year 6 children participate in ‘Take over day’ where they take on many of the jobs around the school and at the end of the year they put on a performance.
In Year 4 and Year 6 our children are offered the chance to take part in residential camps during the summer terms. Year 4 spend two jam-packed days staying at the Dean Field Studies Centre (Forest of Dean) where they take part in team-building tasks, shelter building, a stream study, climbing and zip-wire! Year 6 spend a whole week under canvas in Exmouth, Devon. During the week they take part in many activities including archery and sand sculpting.
