Mathematical Understanding

At Little Mead Primary Academy, we think that mathematics is really important for children’s development and is a vital skill for future life.

We create opportunities for our children to learn the key skills of number and calculation, measure, shape and space, handling data and problem solving through a range of practical activities, discussion and written work. They are also provided with problem solving activities, relating to real life situations that give opportunities to use and apply their skills and knowledge.

Alongside explicit maths lessons, where they learn both written and mental methods, we aim to include mathematics in our cross curricular activities, using practical, hands-on experiences wherever possible.
